Presentation by Manuel Matthys The start of this journey in 9 panels is London with Alan Moore's surprising work full of Masonic references, including ‘From Hell’ and ‘The League of extraordinary gentlemen’. He will then explore the presence of famous Freemasons in US history in comics, an anti-Masonic publisher, the drawn biography of an African-American brother, several comics and even a special superhero. Audience discussion, moderated by Dominique Freymond, curator of the exhibition. |

Manuel Matthys, passionate comic collector

Manuel Matthys was admitted to the lodge ‘De Zwijger’ of the Belgian Grand Orient in 2017 and is currently a member of the College of Officials. After a Bachelor in Computer Science at the Free University of Brussels, he obtained a Master in Audiovisual Arts at the Royal Institute of Theatre, Cinema & Sound (RITCS).
He was director, editor-in-chief, scriptwriter and producer of numerous television programmes for all Flemish television channels, then production manager in the world of 3D animation and also ventured twice into the staging of a theatre play.
As professor and head of television at RITCS (2009-2015), he was also a member of the board of FM Brussels Radio (2004-2015) (FM stands for Frequency Modulation and not for Freemasons!). Together with his friend, a family doctor, he also made free documentaries for a non-profit organisation about AIDS in Africa, which were broadcast on Canvas. Since 2020, he has been working as a request manager for the company District09, the digital partner of the city of Ghent.
He is a passionate collector of Freemason comics and owns 150 comics from many countries, including England, the USA, but also Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and even Ukraine.
